Article No. TIE ROD ENDS - REVISED LUBRICATION INTERVAL 87-2-12

FORD 1985-87 FORD

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1985-87 MERCURY, LINCOLN TOWN CAR

ISSUE: Tie rod ends returned from the field appear to be prematurely worn due to the lack of lubricant.

ACTION: The proper lubrication interval for the tie rod ends and steering linkage is every 15,000 miles (24,000 kilometers). This is a revision from the 30,000 mile interval called out in the published maintenance schedules for these vehicles. These schedules will be revised in all future printings.

NOTE: If the tie rod ends contain pipe plugs, the pipe plugs should be removed and replaced with grease fittings.
