GLASS - FRONT DOOR - GLASS WILL NOT GO ALL THE WAY DOWN

Article No. 88-13-1

LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1980-88 LINCOLN TOWN CAR

ISSUE: Front door glass that stays about 1/4" (6 mm) above the door glass belt line when the window is in the full down position may be caused by the window regulator downstop. The window regulator downstop may be about 5/32" (4 mm) too long which will not allow the glass to travel to the full down position.

FIGURE 1:

ACTION: To correct this, grind 5/32" (4 mm) off the window regulator downstop to increase the window travel. Refer to the following service procedure.

1. Position the front door window to the fully closed position.

2. Remove the front door trim panel and watershield.

3. Remove the front door window regulator.

4. Grind 5/32" (4 mm) from the window regulator downstop, Figure 1.

5. Remove any burrs around the downstop.

6. Reinstall the front door window regulator.

7. Reinstall the front door watershield and trim panel.
