The low oil level indicator coming on even though the oil level is correct may be caused by contaminated electrical connectors or a sensitive low oil level relay module. To diagnose this condition, refer to the appropriate Shop Manual for wire and relay locations.

1. Check for proper oil level on dipstick.

2. Remove the connector from the low oil level sensor and measure the resistance between the oil level sensor's terminal and housing. The resistance should be greater than 100,000 ohms. If the resistance is less than 100,000 ohms, replace the sensor.

3. With the low oil level sensor connector disconnected, remove the low oil level relay connector and measure the resistance using Rotunda Digital Volt-Ohmmeter 007-00001 between pin #4 (circuit #258) and pin #3 (circuit #57, ground) of the relay's harness side. If the resistance is less than 8,000 ohms, inspect the wiring harness (circuit #258) for possible short to ground, or to adjacent circuits, and repair as necessary. Reconnect low oil level sensor.

Check to make sure the condition is corrected. If not, continue with Step 4.

Figure 15:

4. Check the table in Figure 15 to determine which vehicles have unsealed electrical connectors in the low oil level circuit. Locate the unsealed connector and remove the circuit #258 terminals from the connectors. Splice the two wires together outside of the connectors using a sealed butt connector E6FZ-14488-B.

NOTE: See TSB 86-3-11 for butt connector installation.

If the oil level indicator stays on, install a new relay. The Engineering number on the removed relay must match one of the following part numbers.

5. Check to make sure the indicator works properly.
