ISSUE: A valve train "clattering" noise during engine operation, in the 1000 to 2000 RPM range may be caused by the rocker arm fulcrum seat and rocker arm assembly.

ACTION: To reduce the valve "clattering" noise, install the new design rocker arm fulcrum seats and rocker arm assemblies contained in the valve rocker arm kit, E7AZ-6564-A. Refer to the following service/diagnostic procedure.

NOTE: The valve rocker arm kit (E7AZ-6564-A) contains sixteen (16) rocker arm fulcrum eats and sixteen (16) rocker arm assemblies.

1. Check to see if engine has valve train "clattering" noise in the 1000 to 2000 RPM range. Refer to the Car Shop Manual, Section 21-01 and the Gasoline Engine Overhaul Techniques and Principles Manual, Page 10.


2. If the "clattering" noise is present, remove and throw away the existing rocker arm fulcrum seats and rocker arm assemblies. Refer to the 1986 or 1987 Car Shop Manual, Section 21-21.

3. Install the new valve rocker arm kit, E7AZ-6564-A.
