Technical Instructions

IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER REPLACEMENT:

1. Remove the existing Ignition Lock Cylinder (refer to 1986 Car Shop Manual, Section 13-06). The Ignition Lock Cylinder can be removed by first disconnecting the battery positive (+) cable. Obtain 1/8 inch diameter drift pin and depress the retaining pin with the lock cylinder in the run position (hole located on the lock cylinder housing) while pulling the lock cylinder out.

2. Procure the appropriate Ignition Lock Set /two keys (for "Service Only").

Note: The appropriate Ignition Lock Set is determined by depth of cut on Number 6 tumbler station of the existing ignition key (See Attachment I). This depth of cut can be accurately determined by using the Ford Rotunda Key Code Cutting Package Tool Part Number 011-00003. Refer to parts list below for correct letter indicator and part number.

The selected new Ignition Lock Set will have tumbler stations 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 pre-cut on both new keys to match the new Ignition Lock Cylinder included in the set. The remaining tumbler stations 5, 7, 8, 9 and 10 should be cut to match the existing keys for the door locks.

3. Using the old ignition keys, decode tumbler cut numbers 5, 7, 8, 9, and 10 using the Ford Rotunda key code cutting package tool part number 011-00003.

4. Cut the new matching key position numbers 5, 7, 8, 9, and 10 using the designated tool.

5. Check out new key operation in the new Ignition Lock Cylinder and the doors (both keys).
6. Install the new Ignition Lock Cylinder in the steering column (refer to the appropriate shop manual).

7. Reconnect battery cable.
8. Start the car to assure proper operation of systems affected.

Note: Make sure that both keys that have been cut per above instructions will return to the run position from start position without drag. For future key code identification, retain both old and new key tags.

PARTS REQUIREMENTS:

As determination is required to select the proper ignition lock set, an initial supply of ignition lock cylinder sets will not be direct shipped to dealers. Do not order recall parts from Windsor Export Supply. Order all requirements directly from Wixom using the mailing address on page No. 1 of this Bulletin. LABOR ALLOWANCES:

Replace Ignition lock cylinder . . . 0.5 Hrs. Insert in Box "B" on Form 1864

Administrative Allowance . . . . . . 0.1 Hrs.

The 0.1 Hour Administrative Allowance must be added to the repair time before inserting the total labor time in the correct box.

REPORTING OF COMPLETIONS:

Upon completion of the required service, return the second copy of the Form 1864 completely filled out and signed by authorized dealer personnel. Only the Form 1864 will be accepted for reimbursement for this program. It is important that all claims be submitted for all completed units so that you will be reimbursed and our records will show completion. Any problem encountered with this recall should be discussed with your supervising Ford location or reported to this office.
