RADIO - AUDIO (SPEAKER) CABLE - SERVICE TIPS
LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1989 CONTINENTAL
ISSUE: Two audio cables are used to carry the speaker wiring from the radio chassis to the amplifier in the luggage compartment. In the 1988 Continental, these cables were separate "overlay" cables. Beginning in the 1989 model year, Continentals will have these two audio cables integrated into the vehicle wire harness assemblies. The audio cables have molded connectors with non-removable terminals and cannot be repaired.
ACTION: If replacement of one of the radio audio cables is required on 1989 Continentals, use the 1988 Continental "overlay" cables. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
1. Disconnect the audio cable connectors from the radio chassis and the radio amplifier.
2. Cut the existing audio cable near the connector ends.
CAUTION: DO NOT CUT INTO THE WIRE HARNESS ASSEMBLY THAT THE CABLE IS TAPED TO.
3. Tape back the audio cable ends to the existing vehicle wire harness assembly.
4. Obtain the appropriate audio cable:
^ Front Audio Cable E80Y-14588-B
^ Rear Audio Cable E80Y-14588-C
5. Connect the audio cable connectors to the radio chassis and the radio amplifier.
6. Secure the new audio cable to the old audio cable and vehicle wire harness assembly.
