FORD: 1988-89 TAURUS

LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1988-89 CONTINENTAL, SABLE

ISSUE: Instrument cluster lights and EATC control assembly lights that flicker "on" and "off" may be caused by a loose or improperly seated voltage ignition wire (BR/O circuit 181) in the grey hard shell connector of either the blower motor controller or high blower relay.

ACTION: Make sure the voltage ignition wire is properly seated in both connectors. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

NOTE: THE 1988 AND 1989 TAURUS/SABLE EVTM, PAGE 89 AND THE 1988 AND 1989 CONTINENTAL EVTM, PAGE 63 ARE INCORRECT AS PUBLISHED.

1. Push the voltage ignition wire into the connector. Make sure the voltage ignition wire is locked tight in the connector.

2. If the lights stop flickering and the voltage ignition wire stays locked in the connector, stop here. If the voltage ignition wire will not stay locked in the connector or the connector retaining tab is broken on either component, proceed to Step 3.

3. Remove the component that requires replacement. Refer to the appropriate model year Car Shop Manual for service details.

4. Install the new component.
