ISSUE: Radio sound may become intermittent from either front or rear speakers (right or left channel) when the vehicle is driven over rough, bumpy roads. In some cases hitting the instrument panel may make the sound return. This condition is caused by a defective circuit continuity plug that fits into the rear 6-way connector of the EPC radio.
ACTION: If service is required, remove the radio. Refer to the appropriate 1989 Car Shop Manual, Section 35-01 and the 1989 Truck Shop Manual, Section 15-01 for service details.
Send the removed unit to a Ford Authorized Radio Sales and Service Center for repair as described in Audio Service Bulletin AR-9-89. This corrective action will render the radio non-CD compatible.
NOTE: THE CONTINUITY PLUG HAS BEEN ELIMINATED FOR RADIOS BUILT AFTER APRIL 30, 1989. THIS CREATES UNIQUE CD AND NON-CD COMPATIBLE RADIOS. FOR THESE RADIOS, IT IS ESSENTIAL TO ENSURE THAT THE PROPER RADIO IS USED FOR THE APPLICATION. NON-CD RADIOS ARE DESIGNATED BY A "N" ON THE LABEL.
