LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1989-91 CONTINENTAL
ISSUE: The A/C blower motor may go into high speed operation and then can not be changed either by manual override or by turning the system OFF. This occurs because water leaks into the heater, A/C plenum from around the deflector assembly cowl vent and enters the variable blower controller.
ACTION: Reseal the cowl vent deflector seal area. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
NOTE: WHEN THIS CONDITION IS ENCOUNTERED, NEITHER THE CONTROLLER NOR THE CONTROL HEAD SHOULD BE REPLACED.
1. Remove the right hand cowl vent screen assembly. Refer to the 1989 Continental Car Service Manual, Page 47-09-6, for the removal procedure.
2. Apply silicone sealer (D6AZ-19562-BA) to the cowl vent deflector seal where the ends overlap each other.
3. Reinstall the right hand cowl vent screen.
NOTE: REPLACE ANY MISSING SCREWS WITH SCREW (N610131-S55).
