BRAKES - FRONT ROTOR WEAR

LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1988-92 CONTINENTAL

ISSUE:
Semi-metallic brake lining material can lead to accelerated front brake rotor wear, causing brake roughness, characterized by vibration of the brake pedal, steering column, or body of the vehicle during brake application.

ACTION:
Replace the front brake pads and rotors once it is determined that they are the source of vibration and premature brake rotor wear. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Perform diagnosis as outlined in Section 06-03 of the appropriate Continental Service Manual and follow the rotor replacement tips covered in TSB 92-12-4 prior to replacing any of the brake parts.

2. If the vibration originates from the front of the vehicle, replace the front brake pads and rotors. Refer to the Brake Section of the applicable model year Continental Service Manual for service details.

CAUTION:
MISAPPLICATION OF BRAKE ROTORS CAN CAUSE BRAKE DRAG, ACCELERATED WEAR, VIBRATION, ROUGHNESS AND WHEEL STUD FAILURE.
