Front Speakers - Inoperative/Intermittent Operation

RADIO-FRONT SPEAKERS INOPERATIVE OR INTERMITTENT OPERATION-VEHICLES WITH HIGH LEVEL AUDIO SYSTEM (HLAS) BUILT BETWEEN 5/01/89 AND 5/31/89

LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1989 CONTINENTAL


ISSUE: An inoperative or intermittent front door speaker may be caused by the speaker hardshell connector terminal shorting out on the window regulator.

ACTION: Reposition the front speaker assemblies. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

1. Remove the three (3) mounting screws that hold the speaker bracket. Refer to the 1989 Continental Car Shop Manual, page 35-30-1, for service details.

2. Rotate the bottom of the speaker about 1/2 inch toward the front of the car.

3. Drill three (3) new speaker mounting holes in the speaker bracket.

4. Re-mount the speakers.

CAUTION: WHEN DRILLING NEW MOUNTING HOLES, BE CAREFUL NOT TO DAMAGE THE SPEAKER WIRING.

5. Check speaker operation.
