ISSUE: Poor AM radio reception, AM fading and/or engine noise interference may be caused by a poor shield-to-shield connection at the in-line antenna cable connector.
ACTION: Use the following diagnostic procedure to determine the corrective action.
NOTE: DO NOT CRIMP THE ANTENNA CABLE CONNECTORS AS PREVIOUSLY INSTRUCTED IN TSB 90-15-8.
1. Disconnect and inspect the antenna cable connection at the base of the antenna for corrosion.
2. If corroded, clean the connectors with steel wool.
3. After cleaning, make sure that no steel wool particles remain in the connectors.
4. Fill the female connector with Lubriplate DS-ES grease.
5. Connect the cables and retest for the condition.
6. If the condition remains, continue with Step # 7.
7. Disconnect and inspect the in-line cable connector behind the glove box for corrosion.
8. If corroded, clean the connectors with steel wool.
9. After cleaning, make sure that no steel wool particles remain in the connectors.
10. Install a new in-line radio antenna connector retainer (F1VY-19121-A) in the female connector.
11. Connect the female and male connectors.
12. Retest for the condition.
13. If the condition still remains, continue with Step # 14.
