LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1986-89 SABLE 1988-89 CONTINENTAL


ISSUE: The bright portion of the windshield and backlite mouldings may show signs of surface rust. This is caused by heat and ultra violet ray exposure, ACTION: Install a new "Service Only" double lip insert. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

WINDSHIELD

1. Make sure the car is at room temperature, clean and dry.

2. Remove the two (2) screws closest to the end of the leaf screen on both sides, Figure 1.

3. Open the door and peel back the weatherstrip up to the top of the windshield, Figure 1.
4. Zip out the outer windshield moulding insert, beginning at the lower portion of the windshield, Figure 1.

5. Snap in the new "Service Only" double lip insert, Figure 4. Start at the center of the top of the windshield and apply slight tension (pull) while going around the corner, Figure 2.

6. Tuck the ends of insert under leaf screen, Figure 1.

7. Re-install the weatherstrip. Tucking the ends under leaf screen.

8. Re-install the screws in leaf screen, Figure 1.

BACKLITE (TAURUS ONLY)

1. Make sure the car is at room temperature, clean and dry.

2. Open the trunk and zip out outer backlite moulding insert, Figure 2.

3. Snap in the new "Service Only" double lip insert, Figure 4. Start at either end, making sure that it is flush at each end, Figure 3.

NOTE: MAKE SURE OUTER EDGE OF SERVICE INSERT IS TUCKED UNDER THE DITCH MOULDING BEFORE SNAPPING IN.
4. Place the insert around backlite by applying slight tension in the corner to avoid wrinkling in the corner.

5. Cut the final end flush with lower moulding insert.

6. Place the lower finisher on top of the new moulding insert.
