Owner's Letter

April, 1989
Dear Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Ford Motor Company has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1989 Continental Vehicles.

Safety Defect On some of these vehicles, the left rear seat belt
retractor may not be properly attached to the vehicle body. If a collision were to occur, the retractor might pull away from its anchorage and an occupant in the left rear seating position may not be fully restrained by the seat belt assembly. The risk of injury to an occupant in such a situation would be increased.

If a passenger rides in the seat before the vehicle is inspected, the seat belt should be worn in the normal way. As is always the case, the lap portion of the belt assembly should be worn snugly about the hips. Even if the retractor were to pull away from its anchorage, the lap portion of the belt assembly would provide a significant amount of protection.

Repairs At no cost to you, your dealer will inspect and, if
necessary, reattach the seat belt retractor assembly.
