Throttle Valve Cable/Linkage: Adjustments
THROTTLE VALVE CABLE ADJUSTNOTE: The Throttle Valve (TV) cable normally does not require adjustment. The only time cable should be adjusted is if one of the following components are replaced: main control assembly, TV cable, TV cable engine mounting bracket, throttle control lever link or lever assembly, engine throttle body, or transaxle assembly.
TV Cable Adjustment:
1. connect TV cable eye to throttle lever link, then attach cable boot to chain cover.
2. With TV cable mounted in engine bracket, ensure threaded shank is fully retracted.
3. 3.0L engines, to retract shank, hold spring rest and wiggle top of thread shank while pressing shank.
4. On 3.8L engines, adjuster spring has two 180° segments, to retract shank span the crack between two segments with suitable large screwdriver or socket extension rod, compress spring by depressing rod toward throttle body, with spring compressed, push threaded shank toward spring.
NOTE: Do not pull on cable sheath.
5. On all models, attache end of TV cable to throttle body.
6. Rotate throttle lever to Wide Open Throttle (WOT) position and release.
7. Threaded shank should show movement or ratchet out of grip jaws. If movement is not present, inspect TV cable system for broken or disconnected components and repeat procedure as required.
