EEC IV - SELF TEST CODES "71" AND "72" - POSSIBLE

ISSUE: EEC IV Continuous Self-Test codes "71" and "72" may be generated under certain driving conditions, even though no vehicle symptoms are present. These codes are stored in the EEC Self-Test memory. These codes may or may not be valid. If they are not valid, an incorrect diagnosis of the concern as a defective EIC or EEC module may be made when no fault actually exists.

The conditions that will typically generate the error codes are:
^ Long engine cranking time (over 10 seconds) or

^ High engine RPM, such as driving in a lower gear or towing.
ACTION: Determine if the Code "71" or Code "72" is valid by referring to the following flow chart, Figure 1.
