The Continental uses a new electro-hydraulic, speed sensitive variable assist rack and pinion power steering system. The system is designed to generate higher levels of power assist during low vehicle speeds and while parking, while progressively reducing power assist as vehicle speed increases.
The system is comprised of a new control valve, an electro-hydraulic actuator valve, and an electronic control module that is programmed to provide the right amount of assist during all vehicle speeds, Figs. 2 and 3.
The control module also has built-in diagnostic capabilities, which enables quicker troubleshooting in the event of a system malfunction.
