STEERING - HIGH EFFORTS DURING WIDE TURNS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS
LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1988-90 CONTINENTAL
ISSUE: A slight increase in steering efforts may be experienced while making wide turning maneuvers at speeds above 50 mph (88 Km/h). This condition usually occurs on high mileage vehicles and is caused by temporary leakage past the fourth valve sleeve seal of the power steering gear assembly.
ACTION: Install a new power steering "short rack assembly". The "short rack assembly" does not include the boots, clamps and inner tie rods. Refer to 1988-90 Continental Shop Manual, Section 13-47, for service details.
