Fuel Gauge - Pointer Fluctuation

GAUGE - FUEL - INDICATES A FLUCTUATING FUEL LEVEL
LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1989-90 MARK VII


ISSUE: The fuel gauge pointer may indicate a fluctuating fuel level relative to the movement of fuel in the tank. This occurs because an anti-slosh module was not installed.

ACTION: Install a combination fuel anti-slosh/tripminder interface module. Refer to the following procedure for service details.



1990 UNITS

1. Remove the instrument cluster. Refer to the 1990 Mark VII Shop Manual, Section 33-01, for the removal procedure.

2. Remove and throw away the following items.

^ Instrument cluster backplate

^ Flex circuit board (printed circuit)

^ (12) Terminal clips

^ Tripminder interface module

3. Install the following components, Figure 1

^ Instrument cluster backplate (F1LY-10848-A)

^ Flex circuit board (F1LY-10K843-A)

^ (12) Terminal clips (E6DZ-10927-A)

^ Combination fuel anti-slosh/tripminder interface module (FOLY-14B064-A)
NOTE: ALL SERVICE PARTS LISTED IN STEP 3 MUST BE REPLACED.

4. Re-install the instrument cluster. Refer to the 1990 Mark VII Shop Manual, Section 33-01 for the installation procedure.



1989 UNITS

1. Remove the instrument cluster. Refer to the 1989 Mark VII Shop Manual, Section 33-01, for the removal procedure.

2. Remove the instrument cluster mounting tab located at the upper left hand hand side to provide clearance to the instrument panel, Figure 2.

3. Remove and throw away the following items.

^ Instrument cluster backplate

^ Flex circuit board (printed circuit)

^ (12) Terminal clips

^ Tripminder interface module



4. Install the following components, Figure 1

^ Instrument cluster backplate (F1LY-10848-A)

^ Flex circuit board (F1LY-10K843-A)

^ (12) Terminal clips (E6DZ-10927-A)

^ Combination fuel anti-slosh/tripminder interface module (FOLY-14B064-A)
NOTE: ALL SERVICE PARTS LISTED IN STEP 4 MUST BE REPLACED.

5. Re-install the instrument cluster. Refer to the 1989 Mark VII Shop Manual, Section 33-01 for the installation procedure.
