LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1990 TOWN CAR


ISSUE: The automatic temperature control (ATC) blend door may change from warm to cold over periods of 1/2 to 1 minute. In addition, the power antenna may not operate. These conditions occur because of damaged or loose connections within the 8-way connectors or damaged connector shells.

ACTION: If service is required, install a new ATC connector kit (FOOY-14489-A) or power antenna connector kit (FOOY-14489-B) as required. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

Figure 1:

1. Locate the connectors which are located on top of the ATC blend door actuator and in the trunk at the power antenna module, Figure 1.

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

3. Check the suspected connector for damaged or loose connectors.

4. Disconnect the suspected connector.

5. Cut the connector off as close to the connector base as possible.

6. Splice the new connector on the wire harness.

7. Tape the spliced area.

8. Re-connect the negative battery terminal.

9. Test the car ATC blend door and power antenna for proper operation.
