ISSUE: At highway speed, the front door glass may hit the edge of the front door glass run assembly during the up cycle. If the glass does not seat itself into the run assembly properly, windnoise and water leaks may occur. This occurs because the channel of the run assembly just below the "A" pillar sail bend is wider than the "A" pillar above the sail bend. This allows the glass to travel outboard during the upward cycle at highway speed and eventually hit the run assembly.
ACTION: Adjust both front door glass run assemblies. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
1. Roll the front door window all the way down.
2. Obtain a pry bar tool - (3-5 mm thick piece of aluminum or steel about 500 mm long). Insert it into the glass run assembly along the entire length of the "A" pillar as shown in Figure 1.
3. Slightly pry the glass run assembly open using light force as shown in Figure 1.
CAUTION: PRYING THE GLASS RUN ASSEMBLY TOO MUCH WILL RESULT IN WINDNOISE AND WATER LEAKS.
Figure 2:
4. Remove the pry bar tool and check the glass run assembly opening dimension with a scale as shown in Figure 2.
5. Insert a scale in the glass run assembly between the sealing lips. Tip the scale up in the same direction as the pry direction so that the scale is perpendicular to the glass plane, Figure 2.
6. Measure off the dimension at both ends and the center and see if it is about 16 mm. If not, repeat Steps # 2 through # 6.
7. Check the glass tracking or operation at highway speed. Make sure the glass will fully seat itself into the run assembly during the up cycle.
