EXHAUST - INLET PIPE/MUFFLER REPLACEMENT SERVICE TIPS


FORD:

This TSB article is being republished in its entirety to include a service notation about dual muffler replacements.

ISSUE:
The exhaust inlet pipe is not serviced as part of the muffler assembly. This causes corrosion between the inlet pipe (aluminized low carbon material) and the muffler assembly (stainless steel material). The dissimilar metal reaction accelerates the corrosion of the inlet pipe.

ACTION:
When replacing the muffler also replace the inlet pipe assembly. Refer to the following Inlet Pipe/Muffler Application Chart for correct parts usage.


NOTE:
IN THE CASE OF DUAL EXHAUST SYSTEMS, IF ONLY ONE SIDE MUFFLER SYSTEM IS IN NEED OF REPAIR, BOTH SIDES MUST BE REPLACED ALONG WITH THE EXHAUST INLET "H" PIPE.
