^ TRANSMISSION - AOD - GEAR "WHINE" AT SPEEDS FROM 42 TO 60 M.P.H.

LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1990-91 TOWN CAR

ISSUE:
Transmission overdrive planetary gear whine may be heard at speeds of 42 to 60 mph when the transmission is in OVERDRIVE; the gear whine is not present when the vehicle is in DIRECT DRIVE.

ACTION:
Confirm the presence of overdrive gear whine. If gear whine has been verified, replace the driveshaft assembly with the new tuned damper driveshaft assembly. Refer to the applicable model year Car Service Manual for service details.

NOTE:
IF TRANSMISSION GEAR WHINE IS STILL UNACCEPTABLE, PERFORM THE PROCEDURE AS OUTLINED IN TSB 92-23-6, AOD OVERDRIVE GEAR SET REPLACEMENT.
