Front/Rear Door Window Regulators - Inoperative

90ford04

WINDOW - POWER - FRONT AND REAR DOORS - REGULATOR INOPERATIVE

Article No. 90-4-7

LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1990 TOWN CAR

ISSUE: The front and rear door window regulators may not work. The power motor of the cable driven regulator will operate, but the window will not move up or down. This is caused by each end of the cable not staying in the proper position. When the cable ends are out of position, the mechanism will not work smoothly. This allows the cable to move freely and kink itself in the mechanism. This eventually damages the regulator assembly.

ACTION: Install a new window regulator assembly that has hot melt glue on the cable ends to hold them to the mechanism. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

1. Remove the front or rear door window electric regulator assembly and throw it away. Refer to the 1990 Lincoln Town Car Shop Manual, Section 42-05 for the removal procedure.

2. Install a new window regulator assembly. Refer to the 1990 Lincoln Town Car Shop Manual, Section 42-05 for the installation procedure.
