Fuel Door Release Switch - Finish Panel Warpage

^ SWITCH - FUEL FILLER DOOR RELEASE - REROUTE WIRING TO CORRECT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL BOWING OR WARPAGE - VEHICLES BUILT BETWEEN 10/1/89 AND 12/1/89
LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1990 TOWN CAR
ISSUE: The cluster finish panel may be bowed or warped upward at the fuel filler door release switch. This occurs because the wiring is improperly routed behind the switch.
ACTION: Reroute the wiring behind the fuel filler door release switch. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Remove the RH instrument panel moulding by pulling up to unsnap the retainers.
3. Slide the radio out of the instrument panel. Rest it on the opened ash tray to gain access to the switch wiring.
NOTE: IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO DISCONNECT THE RADIO WIRING.
4. Unsnap the fuel filler door release switch. Pull it out of the instrument panel and disconnect the wiring.
5. Using the radio opening, proceed as follows:
a. Carefully push the wiring toward the front of the car over the top of the main wire harness.

b. Route it underneath the steel reinforcement to ensure clearance to the switch connector, Figure 1.
6. Pull the switch connector through the hole in the instrument panel.
7. Be sure that the antenna is plugged into the radio. Slide the radio into the instrument panel until it snaps in.
8. Connect the fuel filler door release to the connector. Push it into position until it snaps in place.
9. Line up the RH moulding with the switches. Snap it in place.
NOTE: BE SURE THAT THE SWITCHES OPERATE FREELY AND DO NOT BIND ON THE MOULDING.
