Article No. 90-9-6
LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1990 TOWN CAR
ISSUE: The headlamp "autodim" switches to low beam, but may not return to high beam after the other vehicle has passed. This condition occurs because the dimmer sensor angle is not aimed correctly.
ACTION: Install a new dimmer sensor. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
1. Check the dimmer potentiometer. Refer to the 1990 Lincoln Town Car Shop Manual, Section 32-15 for testing details.
2. If necessary, replace the potentiometer (FOVY-13C105-A). Refer to the 1990 Lincoln Town Car Shop Manual, Section 32-12 for removal and installation procedures.
3. If the potentiometer is good, then replace the dimmer sensor "GREEN LABEL" with the new level dimmer sensor (FOVY-13A019-B, "YELLOW LABEL"). Refer to the 1990 Lincoln Town Car Shop Manual, Section 32-15 for service details.
