LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1990 TOWN CAR
ISSUE: Water leaking from overhead into the passenger compartment during cold weather may be caused by the rear drain hoses for the moon roof. The rear drain hoses may be too long which results in...
^ Drain hose sags below the point of water exit
^ Trapped water freezes at the low point
^ Water coming down the hose backs up into the moon roof housing.
ACTION: Shorten the moon roof drain hoses. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
1. Make sure the drainage system is not restricted from some other source. Refer to the 1990 Lincoln Town Car Shop Manual, Section 46-05 for service details.
2. If the rear drainage system works properly, this long drain hose concern could exist. It would only be experienced in freezing weather.
3. Remove the trim from the side of the luggage compartment. Refer to the 1990 Lincoln Town Car Shop Manual, Section 45-03 for service details.
4. Check to see if excess hose length causes the condition.
5. If excess hose length is present, proceed as follows:
a. Pull the end of the hose out of the drain valve and into the luggage compartment.
b. Cut off enough hose so that when it is inserted back into the drain valve it does not sag. It should not go into the quarter panel area below the exit point.
NOTE: DO NOT CUT OFF MORE THAN EIGHT INCHES.
c. Put a small amount of rubber cement on the end of the hose to stop it from being pulled out of the drain valve.
d. Insert the hose into the valve.
e. Make sure the hose is not sticking out of the valve into the wheel well area.
6. Replace trim panels.
