LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1990-91 TOWN CAR


ISSUE: A cracked speaker grille may be caused by the thread forming retaining screws applying excessive pressure to the grille.

ACTION: Replace cracked speaker grilles. Install them with new thread cutting screws. These cutting screws will cut without stretching the plastic grille. Refer to the following procedure for service details.


1. Remove front door trim panel as outlined in section 45-03 of the 1990/91 car shop manual.

2. Remove the cracked speaker grille and discard the thread forming screws.

3. Install new speaker grille using the new thread cutting screws, Figure 1.

NOTE: DO NOT RE-USE THE ORIGINAL THREAD FORMING SCREWS, Figure 2.

4. Install door trim panel as outlined in section 45-03 of the 1990/91 car shop manual
