Electronic Rear View Mirror

The Electronic Rear View Mirror has a mirror face with variable reflectivity. The mirror face changes from highly reflective (the normal position) to slightly reflective (the non-glare position) when light sensors (photocells), built into the Electronic Rear View Mirror, detect light.

With the Ignition Switch in START or RUN, voltage is present at the Electronic Rear View Mirror through Fuse 18 and circuit 640 (R/Y) to power to the Mirror.

When the Electronic Rear View Mirror is turned on, the DISTANCE control, located at the bottom of the unit, determines the Mirror's sensitivity to light.

When the selector lever is placed in REVERSE, circuits 298 (P/O) and 140 (BK/PK) are connected in the Manual Lever Position Sensor and voltage is applied to the Electronic Rear View Mirror on circuit 140 (BK/PK). This signal deactivates the Mirror to insure that the driver has a bright, clear view in the mirror while backing up.

The Left Power Mirror also has variable reflectivity and operates the same way as the Electronic Rear View Mirror. The Left Power Mirror shares the signal from the light sensors in the Electronic Rear View Mirror.
