^ WIRING - ASSEMBLY 14A488 - BURR CUTS WIRING FOR FRONT LEFT COURTESY SWITCH AND BLOWS # 8 FUSE - VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE 6/1/93

LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1993-94 CONTINENTAL

ISSUE:
The # 8 fuse may blow because a sheet metal burr cuts into the 14A488 wiring assembly for the front left courtesy lamp switch.

ACTION:
Tape the damaged wire insulation and apply heat shrink tubing for protection against sheet metal burrs. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

1. Remove the front left hand courtesy lamp switch by unscrewing the retaining nut with a 15 mm deep socket wrench.

2. Gently pull the switch and wires out about 2" (50.8 mm).

3. Visually check to see if any of the three (3) wires need to have the insulation repaired. Apply PVC tape individually to damaged wires.

4. Disconnect the courtesy lamp switch from the connector, Figure 1.

5. Slide a piece of 7/16" (11.1 mm) diameter heat shrink tubing (WT 5628-A) completely over the wire connections so that the tubing will cover the back half of the connector with the rest of the tubing covering the wires.

6. Apply heat using a heat gun to shrink the tubing.

7. Reconnect the courtesy lamp switch in the connector and reinstall it in the vehicle.
