ANTI-THEFT PROTECTION SYSTEM - ALARM SOUNDS IN ERROR - HOOD SWITCH POSITIONED TOO LOW - VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE 2/15/93

LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1993 MARK VIII

ISSUE:
The anti-theft alarm may sound in error. This occurs because the hood switch is positioned too low.

ACTION:
Install a revised hood switch which will allow for proper positioning on the sheet metal. The new hood switch has an anti-rotation locating tab and raises the seating surface of the switch.

Inadvertent alarm actuation may be very difficult to duplicate. If a vehicle built prior to 2/15/93 is reported with an intermittent alarm actuation, replace the hood switch (F3LY-19A434-B). Also refer to TSB 93-12-7 for the door ajar switch replacement procedure.

1. Follow the normal diagnostic procedures as outlined in Section 01-14C of the 1993 Mark VIII Service Manual.

2. Replace the hood switch located on the right hand side of the engine compartment with a revised hood switch (F3LY-19A434-B). Refer to the 1993 Mark VIII Service Manual, Page 01-14C-15, for the installation procedure.
