ISSUE:
Some vehicles may have a no start and/or hard start concern during low ambient temperatures. This may be due to low reserve capacity of the battery.

ACTION:
Replace the 650 CCA battery with an 850 CCA battery. This will increase the reserve capacity of the battery. Also, replace the spark plugs with full platinum spark plugs and change the engine oil. This will reduce starting loads, reduce spark demand and improve spark plug fouling resistance. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Replace all eight (8) spark plugs with platinum spark plugs (AWSF-32F). Be sure to measure the spark plug gap and adjust to 1.3-1.4 mm (0.051-0.055"). Torque spark plugs to 9-20 N-m (7-15 lb-ft).

2. Change the engine oil and install a new oil filter (F1AZ-6731-A). Be sure to use only 5W3O Motorcraft Super Premium Oil (XO-5W30-QSP).

3. Remove the battery.

4. Clean the battery cable ends and install a new battery (BXT 65-850).
