Compressor HVAC: Service and Repair
Removal
1. Discharge the refrigerant from the system following the recommended service procedures. Observe all safety precautions. Service Precautions
2. Loosen the idler pulley to remove the tension from the compressor drive belt. Remove the drive belt from the clutch pulley. Drive Belt
3. Remove the refrigerant lines from the compressor manifolds.
4. Disconnect the clutch wires at the wire connector.
5. Remove one bolt retaining top of the compressor to the compressor front bracket.
6. Remove the locknut and stud from the compressor front lower inboard attachment at the front bracket. If the stud does not come out with the locknut install two 1O mm x 1.25 pitch nuts on the stud, and remove the stud.
7. Remove three compressor lower retaining bolts, and remove the compressor.
Installation
1. Install new compressor as outlined.
2. Position the compressor to the mounting brackets. Install the three lower retaining bolts.
3. Install the stud and locknut at the front lower inboard attachment. A bolt and lock washer may be used in place of the stud and locknut if desired. The bolt should be 1O mm by 1.25 pitch by 2-1/4 inches long.
4. Install one bolt to attach the top of the compressor to the front bracket.
5. Remove the pressure test plate from the compressor. If the compressor is new, remove the shipping cover and install it on the old compressor.
6. Using new 0-rings lubricated with clean refrigerant oil, connect refrigerant hoses to the suction and discharge manifolds. Tighten connectors to specification. 18-23 N.m (13-17 lb-ft).
7. Connect the clutch wires at the harness connector and attach the connector to the compressor front bracket.
8. Install the belt on the compressor clutch pulley and adjust the belt tension to specification. Drive Belt
9. Leak test, evacuate and charge the system.
10. Check the system for proper operation.
