Lower
Front Suspension:
Removal
1. Raise the front of the vehicle and position safety stands under both sides of the frame just behind the lower arms. Remove the wheel and tire.
2. Remove brake caliper, rotor, and dust shield (and Antilock Brake System (ABS) sensor, if equipped).
3. Remove the jounce bumper, inspect and save for installation if in good condition.
4. Remove shock absorber.
5. Disconnect the steering center link from the pitman arm.
6. Remove and discard the cotter pin from the lower ball joint nut.
CAUTION: DO NOT remove the nut from the stud at this time.
7. Loosen the lower ball joint stud nut one or two turns.
8. TAP the spindle boss sharply to relieve stud pressure.
9. TAP the spindle sharply, near the lower stud, with a hammer to loosen the stud in the spindle.
10. Place a floor jack under the lower arm.
11. Install the coil spring compression tool, and remove the spring.
12. Remove the ball joint nut and remove arm assembly.
Installation
1. Position the arm assembly ball joint stud into the spindle, and install the nut. Tighten to 108-162 N-m (80-119 lb-ft). Continue to tighten until slot for cotter pin is aligned. Install a new cotter pin.
NOTE: Ensure that the pigtail of the lower coil of the spring is in the proper location of the seat on the lower arm, between the two holes.
2. Position the coil spring into the upper spring pocket, and raise the lower arm aligning the holes in the arm with the holes in the crossmember. Install bolts and nuts with washer installed on the front bushing. DO NOT tighten at this time.
3. Remove the spring compressor tool.
4. Connect the steering center link at the pitman arm and install the nut. Tighten to 59-63 N-m (44-46 lb-ft). Continue to tighten until slot for cotter pin is aligned. Install a new cotter pin.
5. Install shock absorber.
6. Install the jounce bumper.
7. Install dust shield, rotor, and caliper. Install ABS sensor, if equipped.
8. Install wheel and tire.
9. With the vehicle supported on the wheels and tires at normal curb height, tighten the arm-to-crossmember bolts and nuts to 148-201 N-m (109-148 lb-ft).
10. Check caster, camber, and toe. Adjust as required.
