Affected Vehicles
This Program covers the following cars:
^ 1993-Model Town Car built from August 24, 1992 through March 13, 1993
^ 1993-Model Mark VIII built from October 5, 1992 through March 13, 1993
^ 1993-Model Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis built from August 24, 1992 through March 6, 1993
Reason For This Program
Field reports and laboratory testing have revealed that certain AODE/W transmission range sensors in some of the affected cars were manufactured with a lubricant that causes the sensor to produce improper signals. Improper sensor signals can cause erratic transmission shifting and, in some instances, intermediate one-way clutch failure. The transmission may fail if the erratic shifting condition is not repaired. No other transmission component is affected by this condition.
Service Action
Transmission range sensors will be inspected for the affected manufacturing period and, if necessary, the sensor will be replaced. This service is available through March 31, 1996.
Customers are also being advised that intermediate one-way clutch assembly coverage is provided during Vehicle Warranty or through March 31, 1996, whichever provides the greater coverage.
In addition, Service Part Warranty (12-Months/12,000-Miles) is provided when clutch assemblies are replaced.
Refunds
Only for owner-paid repairs for replacement of transmission range sensors and the intermediate one-way clutch assemblies made before the date of the Owner Letter (or after the date of the Owner Letter if an emergency repair was made away from the selling dealer).
Refunds must be processed by March 31, 1996.
Courtesy Cars
Ford will pay for a loaner car, if it is necessary, while repairs are being completed except for fuel costs. Fuel costs are customer expense. Dealers are to stay within the applicable ESP courtesy car guideline (Reference Warranty and Policy Manual, Section 5.6, page 7).
