Retrieving and Clearing DTCs
Rotunda SUPER STAR II Tester:
Tools Required:
- Rotunda SUPER STAR II Tester 007-0041-A
- Rotunda Battery Charger 041-00007
NOTE: Ford DOES NOT provide information on how to perform these procedures without the tools specified.
The Air Suspension System diagnostics is divided into three parts:
1. Drive Cycle Diagnostics
2. Auto Test
3. Spring Fill Diagnostics
NOTE: All three parts require the use of Rotunda SUPER STAR II Tester 007-0041-A. Rotunda Super Star Tester 007-00019 may NOT be used.
Drive Cycle Diagnostics:
Drive Cycle Diagnostics:
This part of the diagnostics will light the CHECK SUSPENSION warning indicator in the MESSAGE CENTER if a malfunction is detected in the system while driving the vehicle. Up to 32 Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) will remain stored in memory for up to one hour after the ignition switch is turned to OFF. The air suspension service switch in the luggage compartment must remain ON during this time. The codes should be written down at this time. If the vehicle has not been driven in OVER an hour or the air suspension service switch has been turned OFF, the vehicle must be driven with the air suspension switch ON to try to duplicate the malfunction.
Auto Test:
Auto Test:
Auto Test (Continued):
This part of the diagnostics is divided into three areas:
1. Auto/Manual diagnostic check
2. Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) display
3. Pinpoint Tests
Auto/Manual Diagnostic Check
This test allows the Control Module to verify itself and to check the operation of various components. After performing these tests, the SUPER STAR II Tester will display "12/OK do manual checks" or "13/Faults detected do manual checks." The manual input checks should be performed at this time.
DTC Display
The DTCs can be displayed at this time using the SUPER STAR II Tester. Each DTC detected will be displayed for about 15 seconds. The codes should be written down at this time.
The DTCs recorded during the Drive Cycle Diagnosis should be compared to the DTCs recorded during the Auto Test Diagnosis. The codes which appear during both tests are HARD FAULTS. The codes appearing only in the Drive Cycle Diagnostics are INTERMITTENT FAULTS.
Pinpoint Tests
Each DTC has its own pinpoint test. These tests have priorities assigned to them with 1 being the highest priority and 7 being the lowest priority. One fault may cause several DTCs to be displayed. Perform the pinpoint tests starting with the highest priority.
Spring Fill Diagnostics:
Spring Fill Diagnostics:
Spring Fill Diagnostics (Continued):
These procedures will direct the technician to perform the Spring Fill diagnostics. The Spring Fill Diagnostics allows the technician to fill or vent each spring separately to check the individual springs.
Air Suspension Diagnostic Trouble Code Indexes: Use the indexes to find the appropriate Diagnostic Test Charts.
