XB171 - Check Data (+) And Data (-) Circuit Continuity

- Key "OFF".

- Disconnect any test equipment connected to the Data Link Connector (DLC) (leave equipment disconnected throughout procedure unless otherwise instructed).

- Disconnect Variable Control Relay Module (VCRM). Inspect for damaged or pushed out pins, corrosion, loose wires, etc. Service as necessary.

- Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (Powertrain Control Module (PCM)). Inspect for damaged or pushed out pins, corrosion, loose wires, etc. Service as necessary.

- Install breakout box, leave PCM disconnected.

- Key "ON".

- Measure voltage between test pin 18 and test pin 40 at the breakout box.

- Measure voltage between test pin 19 and test pin 40 at the breakout box.

- Key "OFF".

- Were both voltages less than 1.0 volt?

Yes -- Go to XB172. XB172 - Check Data (+) and Data (-) For Short to Ground

No -- Service DATA (+) or DATA (-) circuit short to power. Remove breakout box. Reconnect all components. Start engine. Turn A/C "ON", wait 15 seconds. A/C "OFF". Engine "OFF". Rerun quick test. Quick Test Appendix (Detailed Testing Instructions)
