Backup Lamp Switch: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
This sensor incorporates a series of step down resistors which act as a voltage divider.

The powertrain control module monitors the voltages which correspond to the position of the manual lever. This information is used in determining the desired gear and transmission electronic pressure control pressure.

This sensor also houses the START circuits for the ignition system to allow the vehicle to be started only in PARK or NEUTRAL.

The BACKUP lamp circuits, which are closed in reverse, are also contained in this sensor.
