Compressor HVAC: Service and Repair





Removal

1. Remove radiator upper sight shield (8C291).
2. Discharge the refrigerant from the system following the recommended service procedures. observe all safety precautions.
3. Raise vehicle on hoist.
4. Remove radiator air deflector (8327).
5. Loosen the idler pulley to remove the tension from the drive belt (8620). Remove the drive belt from the A/C clutch pulley (2E884).
6. Remove the A/C manifold and tube (19D734) from the A/C compressor as outlined.
7. Disconnect the A/C clutch wires at the wire connector.
8. Remove three A/C compressor retaining bolts and remove the A/C compressor.

Installation

Note: A new service replacement A/C compressor is shipped without compressor oil.

1. Service the replacement A/C compressor with the correct amount of clean Motorcraft YN-12b refrigerant oil or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M 1C231-B as outlined.
2. Position the A/C compressor to the mounting brackets. Install the three retaining bolts.
3. Lubricate new O-ring seals with clean Motorcraft YN- 12b refrigerant oil or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M 1 C23 1-B and position them in 0-ring seal grooves of A/C manifold and tube.
4. Apply Pipe Sealant with Teflon D8AZ-19554-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSK-M2G350-A2 to threads of manifold retaining bolt.
5. NOTE: When replacing an A/C compressor, use original manifold bolt from removed A / C compressor to retain A/C manifold and tube to new A/C compressor. Do not use the shipping cap bolts. Position A/C manifold and tube with O-ring seals to A/C compressor. Install retaining bolt and tighten to 17-23 Nm (13-17 lb-ft).
6. Connect the A/C clutch wires at the harness connector.
7. Install the drive belt on the A/C clutch pulley.
8. Install radiator air deflector.
9. Leak-test, evacuate and charge the system.
10. Install radiator upper sight shield.
11. Check the system for proper operation.
