Article No.97-1-4
01/02/97
^ SUSPENSION - FIRMER TUNING MAY RESULT IN HARSHER RIDE
^ TIRES - HARSH RIDE DUE TO IMPROPER INFLATION
^ RIDE - MAY BE SLIGHTLY HARSHER DUE TO SUSPENSION TUNING OR OVER INFLATION OF TIRES
LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1995-97 CONTINENTAL
ISSUE:
Harsh ride quality complaints may occur on some vehicles. This may be caused by:
^ Firmer suspension for improved handling (which is characteristic of the vehicle) over previous model
^ Possible over-inflation of tires
ACTION:
Familiarize the customer with the Continental ride characteristics and of properly maintained tire air pressures. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Some customers have observed that the suspension tuning may be firmer and may convey more road noise than they are accustomed to in Lincoln products. The suspension of the Continental is designed to enhance vehicle handling as well as to optimize the ride quality within the range normally associated with vehicles in this market segment. This improved handling results in a slightly firmer ride with more road-feel presence than in other Lincoln models.
NOTE:
MAINTAINING TIRE PRESSURES AT 207 kPa (30 PSI) IN THE FRONT AND 193 kPa (28 PSI) IN THE REAR IS CRUCIAL TO MAXIMIZING CUSTOMER SATISFACTION WITH THE CONTINENTAL. THIS TIRE INFLATION INFORMATION IS ALSO LISTED ON THE DOOR JAMB DECAL AND IN THE "SERVICE STATION INFORMATION" IN THE OWNER GUIDE.
