CALIBRATION: 5-38D-R05, 5-38R-R05
ISSUE:
Engine misfire and/or MIL illumination with Diagnostic Codes P030X and/or P1443 may occur on some vehicles. This may be due to intermittent purge monitor information and/or misfire monitor calibrated too sensitive.
ACTION:
Replace or reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Verify the concern. Perform normal diagnostic routines and service as required.
PCM Application Chart:
2. If no other concerns are found after performing normal diagnostics or the concern still exists after service has been performed, reprogram or replace the PCM. Dealers with SBDS, reprogram the PCM with the appropriate calibration per the attached calibration chart using the latest calibration update CD. If SBDS is not available, replace the PCM using the correct PCM from the PCM Application Chart in this article.
Modification Decal:
Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal and list the date, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
