WARNING:
THIS MODIFICATION IS AUTHORIZED ONLY FOR THE LISTED ENGINE. PERFORMING THIS MODIFICATION ON OTHER ENGINE CALIBRATIONS IS UNAUTHORIZED AND COULD CREATE LIABILITY UNDER APPLICABLE FEDERAL OR LOCAL LAWS.

ISSUE:
Insufficient air flow within the diverter valve/hoses may cause the MIL to illuminate and set Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0411. This may be due to moisture being trapped in the diverter valve/hoses which freezes, and then does not allow for sufficient air flow.

ACTION:
Use the following Service Procedure to determine if reprogramming or replacing the PCM with a revised calibration/PCM is required.

NOTE:
DEALERS WITH SERVICE BAY DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM (SBDS) ARE REQUIRED TO OBTAIN REGIONAL APPROVAL WHEN IT IS NECESSARY TO REPLACE THE PCM.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Perform the diagnostic procedure in the 1996 Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Car/Truck Service Manual. Service as required.





2. Reprogram or replace the PCM. Dealers with SBDS are required to reprogram the PCM with the appropriate calibration per the Application Chart using the latest calibration update 1996 CD-ROM or later. Dealers without SBDS, refer to the Application Chart to determine the correct PCM.





Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal and list the date, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
