Power Steering Pressure Switch: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Disconnect engine control sensor wiring from Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and position the engine control sensor wiring out of the way.
2. Directly above engine control sensor wiring, remove ground straps from dash panel.
3. Support engine and transaxle assembly using Rotunda Powertrain Lift 014-00765 and Universal Powertrain Removal Bracket 014-00766 or equivalent, remove primary steering column boot attachments.
4. Remove intermediate shaft retaining bolts and remove intermediate shaft.
5. Remove secondary steering column boot from inside of passenger compartment.
6. Remove both air suspension height sensor attachments.
7. Remove rear sub-frame-to-body retaining bolts.
8. Remove dual converter Y pipe.
9. Lower Rotunda Powertrain Lift 014-00765 carefully until sub-frame separates from body approximately 100 mm (4 in).
10. Remove two pins retaining heat shield to bracket and fold shield down.
11. Remove electrical connector from Power Steering Pressure (PSP) switch.
12. Remove PSP switch by unscrewing from power steering auxiliary actuator.
INSTALLATION
1. Replace O-ring on power steering pressure switch. Install to power steering auxiliary actuator until tight. Tighten to 7-14 Nm (5-10 lb ft).
2. Connect electrical connector to power steering pressure switch.
3. Install two pins and heat shield to heat shield bracket.
4. Raise Rotunda Powertrain Lift 014-00765 until sub-frame contacts body.
5. Install sub-frame retaining bolts. Tighten to 135-195 Nm (100-144 lb ft).
6. Attach exhaust system flex tube to dual converter Y pipe.
7. Attach air suspension height sensor.
8. Install tire and wheel assemblies. Tighten lug nuts to 115-142 Nm (85-105 lb ft) in an alternate pattern.
9. Lower vehicle.
10. Fill power steering system with Premium Power Steering Fluid E6AZ-19582-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESW-M2C33-F.
11. Install secondary steering column boot onto power steering short rack.
12. Attach intermediate shaft to power steering short rack. Tighten bolt to 41-51 Nm (30-38 lb ft).
13. Install primary steering column boot.
14. Attach intermediate shaft to steering column. Tighten nuts to 21-33 Nm (15-24 lb ft).
15. Connect engine control sensor wiring to powertrain control module.
16. Install screw retaining two ground straps to dash panel directly above engine control sensor wiring.
17. Purge power steering system of air.
18. Adjust toe setting.
