Backup Lamp Switch: Testing and Inspection

BACKUP LAMPS TRANSMISSION RANGE (TR) SENSOR

Transmission Range Sensor - Schematics:

1. Disconnect transmission range (R) sensor wiring harness connector.

Transmission Range Sensor - Terminal Location (C180):

2. Attach ohmmeter to transmission range (TR) sensor terminals.
3. Cycle transmission range (TR) sensor as required to test all functions of terminals under test.

Transmission Range Sensor - Component Testing Procedure:

4. Check transmission range (TR) sensor resistance between terminals.
5. For an "engine won't crank" condition, determine if the condition exists with the gearshift lever in both PARK and NEUTRAL positions before performing any ignition switch continuity tests.
6. If "no crank" condition only exists in either PARK or NEUTRAL position, test the transmission range (TR) sensor.
