Component Tests and General Diagnostics

Testing of the window regulator control switches should be performed with the window regulator control switches removed from the vehicle. Use a self-powered test lamp or Rotunda Digital Volt-Ohmmeter or equivalent.

Single Switch

The window regulator control switch should be positioned as illustrated to locate terminals during this test.

Passenger door window regulator control switches contain relays. To test switch function, power and ground must be supplied to these relays. Connect terminal C2-3 to battery positive. Connect terminal C1-4 to battery negative.

Test

1. With the window regulator control switch in neutral position:

a. Terminals C1-3 and C1-2 should be continuous with terminal C1-4.
b. Terminals C2-1 and C2-4 should be continuous through the relay coils to terminal C1-4.
c. Terminals C1-4 and C2-3 should be isolated from each other and any other terminal.

2. With the window regulator control switch UP button pressed:

a. Terminal C1-3 should be continuous with terminal C1-1.
b. Terminal C1-2 should be continuous with terminal C2-3.
c. Terminal C2-4 should be continuous through the relay coil with terminal C1-4.
d. Terminal C1-2 should be isolated.

3. With the window regulator control switch DOWN button pressed:
a. Terminal C2-3 should be continuous with terminal C1-4.
b. Terminal C1-2 should be continuous with terminal C1-i.
c. Terminal C2-1 should be continuous through the relay coil with terminal C2- 1.
d. Terminal C2-4 should be isolated.

4. In all switch positions, terminal C2-2 should pass the diode test to terminal C1-4 with the positive test lead attached to C2-2 and the negative test lead attached to C1-4.
