Removal and Installation

1. Remove engine from vehicle.
2. Remove valve covers from engine.
3. Remove engine front timing cover.
4. Remove intake manifold.
5. Remove crankshaft position sensor pulse wheel.
6. Remove rocker arms.
7. Remove exhaust manifolds.

8. Rotate engine to TDC of No. 1 cylinder.

9. Install camshaft positioning tool T93P-6256-A, or equivalent, to camshafts.
10. Remove primary timing chain. Do not remove camshaft sprocket and secondary timing chain at this time.
11. Remove heater hose tube from right cylinder head.

12. Loosen cylinder head bolts in sequence shown.
13. Remove and discard cylinder head bolts.
14. Remove cylinder head and gaskets, discard gaskets.
15. If head casting is to be replaced, remove secondary timing chain and sprockets, then remove camshafts.
16. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Use new cylinder head bolts and gaskets.
b. Lightly oil new cylinder head bolts with clean motor oil.

Cylinder Head Bolt Tightening Sequence:





c. Using sequence shown, torque cylinder head bolts in three steps; first step to 27-32 ft lb, second step rotate bolts an additional 85-95°, third step an additional 85-95°.
