Lighting and Horns: Service Precautions

DISARMING
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Wait one minute for back-up power supply to discharge.
3. Remove air bag module screw covers from rear of steering wheel.
4. Remove two screw and washer assemblies retaining driver's air bag module to the steering wheel.
5. Disconnect driver's air bag module connector.
6. Connect Rotunda Air Bag Simulator 105-00010, or equivalent, to vehicle harness at top of steering column.
7. Remove passenger's air bag as follows:
a. Remove righthand end finish panel from instrument panel.
b. Remove headlamp switch.
c. Remove lefthand end finish panel from instrument panel.
d. Remove lower instrument panel trim cover attaching screws, then the trim cover.
e. Place ignition switch in RUN position, then depress ignition key warning switch pin through access hole.
f. Remove ignition key warning switch.
g. Remove upper steering column shroud.
h. Remove two steering column upper cover retaining screws, then the cover.
i. Remove two screws attaching lefthand instrument panel trim cover. Pull cover rearward and disconnect two electrical connectors. then remove panel.
j. From righthand side of instrument cluster, unclip instrument cluster from two fasteners located above and below each A/C register.
k. Open glove compartment, press insides inward and lower glove compartment to floor.
l. Remove two screws retaining side defroster duct.
m. Working through glove compartment, remove two lower air bag module retaining bolts.
n. Remove three remaining air bag module retaining screws from side of air bag cover.
o. Disconnect electrical connector attached to lefthand side of air bag while removing air bag module.
8. Install a second airbag simulator, or equivalent, on vehicle air bag harness connector in place of air bag. The harness connector will contain GY/O and PK/BK wires.
9. Connect battery ground cable.

ARMING
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Allow at least one minute for back-up power supply to deplete.
4. Remove air bag simulator from clockspring connector at top of steering column.
5. Connect driver's air bag electrical connector.
6. Position driver's air bag on steering wheel and secure with two screw and washer assemblies.
7. Remove air bag simulator from passenger harness connector.
8. Install passenger's air bag as follows:
a. Connect electrical connector to air bag module and position air bag module in instrument panel.
b. Install three upper retaining screws.
c. Install lower module retaining screws.
d. Install side defroster duct screws.
e. Reverse removal procedure to install glove compartment, instrument trim covers and steering column covers.
9. Connect battery ground cable.
10. Place ignition switch in RUN position and note air bag warning lamp operation. Indicator lamp should illuminate for approximately six seconds, then turn OFF.
