XB74 - Check Power to A/C Clutch: Intermittent Short to Ground



- Key "OFF".

- Visually check the power-to-A/C clutch circuit from the Variable Control Relay Module (VCRM) to the A/C clutch.

- Start engine.

- A/C "ON".

CAUTION: While performing this test, do not touch any moving/hot engine parts.

- Shake, wiggle, bend the power-to-A/C clutch from the A/C clutch to the VCRM. A short to ground will be indicated by the A/C clutch disengaging for other than normal cyclic pressure switch operation (the VCRM Failure Mode Effects Management (FMEM) will turn the A/C "OFF" when an over current condition exists).

- Key "OFF", A/C "OFF".

- Is a fault indicated?

Yes -- Isolate fault and service as necessary. Clear continuous memory (Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 585 should have been set). Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes

Start engine. A/C "ON", wait 5 seconds. A/C "OFF", Key "OFF". Rerun quick test. Quick Test Appendix (Detailed Testing Instructions)
