Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair
WARNING: The normal operating temperature of the exhaust system is very high. Never attempt to service any part of the system until it has cooled. Be especially careful when working around the catalytic converter. The temperature of the converter rises to a high level after only a few minutes of engine operation.CAUTION: When servicing exhaust system or removing exhaust components, disconnect all heated oxygen sensors at the wiring connectors to prevent damage to the heated oxygen sensors and wiring harness.

REMOVAL
1. Raise vehicle.
2. Disconnect heated oxygen sensors at wiring harness connectors.
3. Remove dual converter Y pipe flange fasteners from LH exhaust manifold and RH exhaust connector.
4. Remove bolt and nut retainer at transaxle for dual converter Y pipe.
5. Remove two retaining bolts and nuts from dual converter Y pipe outlet connection and remove dual converter Y pipe.
6. Discard exhaust converter outer gasket.
INSTALLATION
1. Loosely install dual converter Y pipe to LH exhaust manifold and RH exhaust connector manifold connections.
2. Install dual converter Y pipe bolt and nut retainers to transaxle.
3. Install new exhaust converter outlet gasket.
4. Install dual converter Y pipe to exhaust system flex tube.
5. Align exhaust system to specification. Starting at front of system, tighten all nuts and bolts to 34-36 Nm (26-33 lb ft).
6. Connect heated oxygen sensors to wiring harness connectors.
7. Check system for leaks.
8. Lower vehicle.
