DTC B1751 - Park/Neutral Switch Circuit Failure

NOTE: Ford DOES NOT provide a procedure to perform the following pinpoint test without the Rotunda New Generation Star (NGS) tester 007-00500 or equivalent.

B1751-1 Check Self Test Set Up

- Make sure transmission range selector is in PARK or NEUTRAL.
- Execute driver seat module self test.

Is DTC B1751 retrieved a second time?

YES GO to B1751-2.
NO Transmission range selector was not in PARK or NEUTRAL when self test was first executed. System OK.

B1751-2 - Check PID

- Access driver seat module PID PKIN_SW.
- Move transmission range selector from PARK, through all ranges and return to PARK.

Does PID PKIN_SW indicate PARK and NEUTRAL positions?

YES REPLACE seat module. RESTORE vehicle. REPEAT self test.
NO GO to B1751-3.

B1751-3 - Check Circuit In Park

- Make sure that transmission range selector is in PARK.
- Disconnect driver seat module connector C2.
- Using ohmmeter connected to a good ground, measure resistance from pin C2-20, circuit 1050 (LG/P), Town Car or circuit 33 (W/PK), Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, to ground.

Is resistance 5 ohms or less?

YES REPLACE driver seat module. RESTORE vehicle. REPEAT self test.
NO For Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, SERVICE open circuit 33 (W/PK) to splice between ignition switch and transmission range sensor. For Town Car, GO to B1751-4.

B1751-4 - Check Fuse 11 (5A)

- Remove fuse junction panel fuse 11 (5A).
- Measure resistance across fuse terminals.

Is resistance less than 5 ohms?

YES SERVICE open circuit 1050 (LG/P) between fuse junction panel and driver seat module pin C2-20. RESTORE vehicle. REPEAT self test.
NO SERVICE device on circuit 1050 (LG/P) that shorted to ground temporarily and opened fuse 11 (5A). RESTORE vehicle. REPEAT self test.
